What is AOL?

The Academy of Leaders (AOL) is the premier emerging leadership development program for FIU students. AOL graduates have gone on to lead FIU student organizations that include but are not limited to: Student Government, Alternative Breaks, Relay for Life, Dance Marathon, Fraternities & Sororities and many more!

How do I join AOL?

Click on the “AOL” page menu bar above for the different track you are interested in (Regular, Athletes, Greek or Biscayne bay Campus) and read more information. All applications are on each track’s page. For more detailed information contact Franklin McCune at the MMC campus or Sabrena O’Keefe at the BBC campus.

Why should I apply?

AOL is a skill building leadership development program designed to create and cultivate the awesome potential inside YOU! AOL can be put on a resume, referenced in job interviews and most of all used for personal growth and development. The time is NOW, are you ready??

The Academy of Leaders (AOL) is a structured leadership development certification program for students. AOL is the premier leadership development program for FIU students. AOL teaches leadership competencies through educational seminars, experiential exercises, and practical application. Students participate in intensive training sessions that focus on building the following competencies: personal empowerment, diversity awareness/inclusion, organizational development, and civic responsibility. Training and discussion topics include:

  • Personality type & leadership style
  • Modeling the Way
  • Stages of Group Development
  • Conflict Management
  • Professionalism & Social Media etiquette

Students put their knowledge to work in a service-learning project designed to yield tangible results for the University and/or local community. As part of a service team, students apply leadership concepts and skills to select, organize, and implement this group project.

CLS will certify an AOL “class” of students each Fall and Spring semester. Applications are available online on each tracks page. Call 305.348.6995 (MMC) or 305.919.5360 (BBC). There is no refund of the materials fee after the application deadline.

AOL has four different tracks:

  1. Biscayne Bay Campus Track (Fall)
  2. Modesto Maidique Campus Regular Tracks (Fall & Spring)
  3. Student Athlete Tracks (Fall & Spring)
  4. Greek Track (Spring)

The Academy of Leaders has a monthly newsletter you can subscribe to that will give you more in depth information and background on the program.
